It was the summer of 1997 when we first celebrated our Singing Week.  From all the experience we have gathered and with renewed enthusiasm, the people of the Cor Ciutat de Tarragona Association organize a Singing Week every three years, a week that reunites not only singers from the city but also singers from the rest of the country and from beyond its frontiers.  In 2002 our Singing Week became part of the activities sponsored by the European Federation of Youth Choirs - Europa Cantat.  In 2005 we held a Singing Week well consolidated in the international calendar and firmly rooted in the city of Tarragona.

This year is its 5th edition and we will have the opportunity to work with four choir conductors of renowned quality and prestige, coordinated by Josep Prats, the musical director of the Singing Week.  There will be four morning ateliers.  The Basque composer Javier Busto, the Chilean conductor Victor Alarcón, the Hungarian pedagogue Peter Erdei and the English arranger Jonathan Rathbone will share their experience with the singers and will help us discover a different and attractive repertoire.

The high point of this 5th edition of the Singing Week will be, as is the tradition, the communal atelier, which will take place every afternoon.  This year the well-known maestro Edmon Colomer will conduct the oratorio of Arthur Honegger "Le Roi David".  The interpretation of this symphonic psalm with wind orchestra, keyboard and percussion instruments, narrator, soloists and mixed choir in the Auditorium Camp de Mart of Tarragona will crown the Singing Week 2008.

All this will take place in the Roman Tarraco, a city open to the countryside and the sea, a city that since ancient times ha opened itself to its visitors with all the warmth that it receives from the light characteristic of the Mediterranean.  A city that has received the international acknowledgement of the UNESCO which declared its archaeological monuments Human Heritage.

Welcome to our Singing Week 2008
